With its Mi 8, Xiaomi offers an interesting alternative Android flagship Apple.
What would happen if you were a well-known smartphone builder and wanted to mix the Android operating system with Apple's iPhone X design? Well you would be called Xiaomi and your new device would be called the Mi 8. The Chinese manufacturer has just presented its brand new flagship whose large screen notch inevitably thought of that of its competitor California.
Just like Apple, Xiaomi has released this model to celebrate his birthday, the eighth in this case. The reason why the device is called Mi 8, not Mi 7. The device is flanked by a 6.21-inch OLED screen and definition FHD + (2248 x 1080 pixels). It is however borderless, since it is provided with a notch - thankfully deactivable - at the top and a bar at the bottom.
Side configuration, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with 6 GB of RAM, 64 to 256 GB of disk space, a 3400 mAh battery and GPS dual frequency, which is a world first. As before, Xiaomi particularly cared for the photo part with a 20-megapixel front camera and a 12-megapixel dual sensor on the back with an aperture of f / 1.8 and f / 2.4. The cameras are equipped with different modes boosted to the AI as a smart portrait mode. The base version of the Mi 8 should be sold from € 420, and will be available in black, blue, white and gold.
But Xiaomi also released an ultra-premium version of the device called Mi 8 Explorer Edition. In addition to all the above mentioned items, the Explorer Edition embeds a pressure-sensitive impression sensor directly below the screen. And according to Xiaomi, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition would be the first Android device in the world to use 3D face recognition technology. As you already guessed, Xiaomi did not resist to take advantage of it to take again the concept of Animojis. In addition, the Explorer Edition also offers an astonishingly transparent rear shell, showing all the components. This special edition should be sold around 500 €.
Finally, to continue to "pay tribute" to Apple, Xiaomi has unveiled an entry-level version of the device called Mi 8 SE ... Incredible but true. The screen will be smaller - 5.88 inches - and the configuration less muscular, including a Snapdragon 700 processor. The price should be around 240 €.
On the other hand, no date of possible release of the three models for Europe has been announced for the moment.
