HTC U11 – Newly Certified for Bluetooth 5.1

Got any connected devices that have Bluetooth 5.0? It you did, then this handheld is able to support them with no additional firmware update needed.

HTC has announced their full Bluetooth 5.0 certification on their website. The phone manufacturer has this to say on the site, “We’re announcing this following our full Bluetooth 5.0 certification to ensure our customers are future-proofed for the next generation of Bluetooth-connected products.”

When the HTC U11 first debuted, HTC advertised it as the world’s first smartphone to launch Amazon’s Alexa voice service hands-free by simply saying ‘Alexa’. HTC also wanted you to squeeze this smartphone. Thanks to Edge Sense technology, users could give a simple squeeze to take photos, launch apps and text.

The company didn’t taunt at that time even though it was available on the phone from initial purchase. This was probably because Android N does not support Bluetooth 5. The soon to be released Android O will support d Bluetooth 5 natively

Here are of ways HTC U11 will support Bluetooth 5 when you update to Android O:

·        Two times faster data transmission speeds over Low Energy is fully supported.

·        Four times greater data transmission distances is not supported.

·        Eight times more information in broadcast data is partially supported, with five of the seven required capabilities in use.
