After auteur video game developer Hideo Kojima left Konami in 2015, many wondered what his next move would be. Go small and develop an indie game? Get out of the industry entirely? In the end, it seems Kojima may be making his biggest game yet.

Kojima debuted his next project Death Stranding at E3 2016. The odd title was revealed in an equally bizarre trailer, and since that announcement, Kojima and his team have teased various details about the game, but it remains largely an enigma. Here is what we know so far about Death Stranding, and the direction the game might be heading.

TGA 2016 trailer — Mikkelsen and del Toro make appearances

At the 2016 Game Awards, Kojima accepted the Industry Icon Award and gifted his audience with a new trailer for Death Stranding. The trailer shows no gameplay, but it does give a striking look at the cast and the overall state of the world, which features a city overrun with skeleton soldiers. Mads Mikkelsen makes an appearance as a soldier commanding a squad of skeletons, confirming previous rumors of his involvement. Also notable is a character played by director Guillermo del Toro.

After the trailer’s premiere, del Toro took to Twitter to express his lingering feelings toward Konami and the cancellation of Silent Hills.

Kojima, meanwhile, tweeted some new promotional images, and confirmed that the footage was in-engine, played on the PS4 Pro.
