Sandwell College began life in 1986, the result of Warley College of Technology and West Bromwich College of Commerce and Technology merging.
Courses and Teaching
Higher education courses are available in Business, Childcare, Counselling, Engineering, Fashion, Health & Social Care, Multimedia Design, Imaging & Animation, Photography, Public Services and Teacher Education, as well as Access to HE.
Costs
Foundation degrees cost £5,000 per year for a full-time programme of study. Diplomas and other HEFCE-funded courses cost £4,000 per year for a full-time programme of study. Part-time costs are half of full-time fees.
Student Life
Sandwell College has an NUS affiliated student union that is active in organising social events, fund-raisers and in supporting student activities.
Facilities
Three campuses at Oldbury, Smethwick and West Bromwich were replaced in early 2012 by a new £80 million state-of-the-art site for up to 10,000 students.
Accommodation
There is none offered by the college. Flat shares in Birmingham average £65-£75 per week. Cheaper rentals are available in Wolverhampton, generally £55-£60 per week.
Education
The new Central Campus is an iconic building that towers over the centre of West Bromwich and attracts students from across Birmingham and the Black Country. It provides state-of-the-art information and technology facilities, photographic and recording studios and expanded lecture theatres. It provides state-of-the-art information and technology facilities, photographic, fashion and dance studios and a real aircraft fuselage for travel and tourism training.
Sport
The new campus in West Bromwich includes a fitness centre and sports hall.
Other
A hair and beauty salon ran by students and a simulated dental surgery are part of the new West Bromwich campus.
