A self-driving Tesla Model X is being credited with having helped save an American man’s life after its Autopilot function got him to a hospital when he suffered a pulmonary embolism.
Joshua Neally, a lawyer from Springfield, Missouri, was driving to work one morning when he felt an excruciating pain in his abdomen and chest.
“It was kinda getting scary,” Neally told local TV channel KY3. “I called my wife and just said ‘Something’s wrong’, and I couldn't breathe. I was gasping, kind of hyperventilating.”
“I just knew I had to get to the emergency room,” he said.
Thinking that it would be quicker than pulling over to call an ambulance, Neally set the "Autopilot" autonomous driving function on his new Tesla Model X, of which he had taken delivery just weeks before, to drive him to the closest hospital.
